Primary

Aged Classes

Structured classes enable students to thrive on routine whilst fresh weekly content keeps them engaging and flexible.  Acting techniques are carefully delivered to enhance both life skills and acting skills, ensuring a fully rounded education.

Our one hour lessons provide a wide range of opportunities to keep energy and interest high. Students will experience typical (and not so typical) drama warm up games, improvisation time, vocal techniques, physical theatre, structuring performance pieces, acting skills and techniques.  They are delivered through various theatre genres and extended world celebrations.  The possibilities are endless!  Students might be learning physical and vocal expression themed on historical figures, or the genre of musical theatre one week, and discovering the depths of their own imagination through the theme of World Book Day or the genre of fantasy the next!

We ensure that an understanding of acting and theatre skills are delivered, whilst equally supporting and promoting core key life and transferable skills, meaning that Karen Ryder Theatre School truly is for everyone, no matter what your reasons for attending.  Our classes blend the best of both worlds, presenting a holistic and happy approach. Our classes are not oversubscribed, guaranteeing individual attention to each student’s journey.

Youth

Theatre

Our youth classes recognise the important transitions made within our learners age and experiences.  We encompass this into our structured class material.  We use theatre, acting and the arts to safely explore the world around them and give them ownership of their emerging and evolving questions, encounters and viewpoints.  More advanced techniques are taught both physically and vocally, as well as developing a deeper understanding of theatre terminology, job roles, and how the skills they learn can be utilised in the world of theatre, and equally transferable to the wider world.

Our youth classes are known for forming strong bonds, friendships, and a safe space where students feel comfortable enough to truly be themselves.  We act as a small hub of honesty in their hectic lives and learn how to respect each other with humility.

Youth classes offer the opportunity to embark upon professional qualifications.  We offer Trinity College London exams in digital form, ensuring that our students are engaged in a positive and stress-free exam process.  Students are able to take ownership of which pathway they want to follow, whether it be scripted, devised, acting, performing arts, arts award, group, duologue or solo exams.

Senior Youth Theatre

Senior

Youth Theatre

Students may be invited to our senior youth theatre in their later stages of secondary school, further education or as young adults.  They will have shown a dedication, willingness, and team approach to their learning and a desire to continue expanding their knowledge.

Senior youth students may want to pursue acting, or performing arts, or may be consciously developing their life skills to enhance their next steps.  Their reasons for attending are still as personal and unique as ever, with no pressure towards any particular outcome.  Instead, the classes offer continued support and expansion on their skill sets to the highest level, enabling students to devise and produce their own work.  This is supported with continued higher teaching in techniques and the inclusion of delivery styles, theatre styles and genres.

Once again, students can embark upon professional qualifications with Trinity College London exams.  Students are encouraged to develop directing, writing, and performance skills and choose their own pathway.  They will be urged to do this at a higher graded level to extend their learning outcomes and to experience all that is available to them.

Our senior youth students will gain a well rounded education, but will more importantly develop and discover who they are, how they fit in this world, and how they are of value.  In short, they will believe in themselves.
