& Managing Our Emotions
Karen Ryder Theatre School utilizes acting and theatre to deliver difficult topics in an open, child friendly way that truly engages. We tackle various subjects, including managing emotions, healthy me, acceptance, resilience, empowerment, inclusion, bullying, and give students a tool box of coping skills. Many of these topics are difficult to approach in a typical classroom setting as children do not always want to open up in front of their peers. Through acting and theatre, they can role play, pretend to be someone else, and explore their feelings safely. Our program teaches, guides and nurtures learners through their personal wellbeing and mental health.
We deliver our classes through plays, role play, debates, improvisation, mindfulness, music, metaphor stories, and scripts. We teach fun, creative coping skills to help regulate emotions so they are in control of their emotions rather than their emotions controlling them. We teach learners how to use language to regulate behavior, reactions, and give them a safe space to understand trigger warning signs that their bodies naturally produce. We can take the stigma out of mental health and allow the children to receive early intervention.
